What Causes Calluses
Excessive pressure can lead to a callus which can form beneath weight-bearing and bony areas of the foot. This causes thick, hardened layers of skin to develop.
Symptoms of Calluses
- Pain or tenderness under the skin
- Raised, hardened bump
- Waxy, flaky, or dry skin
- Thick and rough areas of skin
When to see a Doctor
- If the pain continues
- Any sign of infection including redness, pain, and swelling.
- Drainage of fluid from or around that callus
Consult with your Valley Foot and Ankle Specialty Podiatrist for evaluation and discussion on the root cause of your pain. Depending on the root cause, surgical intervention may be the correct treatment.
